2. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

GERD is a chronic digestive disease where stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing heartburn and stomach pain. If you have a weakened or relaxed lower esophageal sphincter, are obese, or have a hiatal hernia, you may experience GERD.

3. Peptic ulcers

Peptic ulcers are sores that develop in the stomach lining or small intestine that can cause you to experience a burning or gnawing pain in your stomach. Peptic ulcers can be caused by the bacteria Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin or ibuprofen, or excessive alcohol consumption.

4. Constipation

Constipation occurs when stool moves too slowly through the colon, causing abdominal pain, bloating, and discomfort. Common causes of constipation include a low-fiber diet, dehydration, or certain medications.

5. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

IBS is a digestive disorder that can cause cramping, bloating, and abdominal pain. The exact cause of IBS is unknown, but stress, certain foods, and hormonal changes can trigger symptoms.

6. Gastritis

Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining that can cause stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting. Gastritis may be due to infection with the bacteria Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), excessive alcohol consumption, or the use of NSAIDs like aspirin or ibuprofen.

7. Food intolerances and allergies

You may experience stomach pain after consuming certain foods you are intolerant or allergic to, such as lactose, gluten, or nuts. Symptoms can include stomach pain, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation.

8. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

12. Diverticulitis

Diverticulitis is an inflammation of the small pouches that can form in the colon. Diverticulitis can cause cramping and pain, often on the left side of the abdomen. A low-fiber diet or constipation may cause you to experience diverticulitis.

13. Kidney stones

Kidney stones are hard mineral deposits that can form in the kidneys and cause severe pain in the lower abdomen or back. Dehydration, a high-sodium diet, or certain medical conditions may cause you to develop kidney stones.

14. Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs when the tissue that usually lines the uterus grows outside of it. It can cause abdominal pain, heavy periods, and fertility problems and may be due to hormonal imbalances.
